Aidez and Snowbird...

Happy New Year! ....while it's been a little quiet from me blog wise, I have been doing quite a bit of knitting since the holidays (for myself!). So, unlike some of my past posts where I've just talked about projects I wanted to be working on, I actually have some show and tell!

Aidez, a free pattern from Berrocco, yep free... A pleasure to knit with a combination of different cables along the fronts and back. Fits beautifully, it definitely brought me back to sweater knitting mode. I'm SO happy about that, because there are some new, really beautiful cabled sweater patterns floating around, and if you haven't browsed through the latest Vogue issue, you may want to, some of the designs are really sweet... My favorite is #9, that's next after my Snowbird...

I've had my eye on this Malabrigo Twist in Applewood for quite some time now, and I'm so happy I chose it after all, despite my mentioning on my project page that I might have had to dye this sweater a darker color. My project details are here on ravelry... Believe it or not, this sweater knits up easily and rather quick. One of the knitters here in the shop knit it along with me (she beat me... but I was knitting other things along the way lol), she knit hers out of Terra in Shale... So gorgeous....

In the middle of knitting Aidez, I whipped up Cladonia, a recent design from our dear friend Through The Loops.... I love the lace edging and my ever favorite Road to China Light knits up like a dream...... This shawl is another fabulous quick knit, I want one in a solid color now, maybe in one of these new Madelinetosh merino light colors (that I have yet to upload onto the website).......

Now, I'm about to start the sleeves on my Snowbird, a design by Heidi Kirrmaier. It's a top down, loose fitting cozy sweater that I can not wait to finish and wear! I'm knitting it out in Terra's new Black Locust Bark. If you're looking for a mindless knit, this is just that. I'll make sure I blog my finished project! Back to knitting and back to blogging for sure. Oh, and if you love the luxurious fibers of The Fibre Company like I do, make sure you swing by and grab a copy of the Latest Knitscene, there are a few patterns in this new issue that you'll love. This week we received our first shipment of Mist Alpaca Hand Paint Chunky and we've fallen in love with this yarn!! Buttery soft, dyed in the most gorgeous colorways, it was a dream to work with. I really wanted to knit a chunky cowl for fall, so I picked the Stockholm Scarf, which is a free ravelry download...

I used 4 skeins of Misti on a 10.5 needle (US), I love it... We're working on getting Misti up on our online store. In the meantime, if you're around, stop over and check it out, you'll love it too! Well, I knew I hadn't blogged in a while, but man this HAS been a long time. What can I say, summer took over, and I'm really glad it did because we all needed a little sun and a break from life. We were beach bound every weekend, and didn't do much of anything craft wise. Well, that's not entirely true, I've been throwing a ton of pottery, and I did in fact crochet a blanket which I love, thanks to Carrie, but that's about it...

In the beginning of the summer, our dear friend, Carrie came by with an idea for a crocheted granny square blanket using Tosh merino light. By the end of the week, ohhhh I don't know, perhaps there were about 20 of us crocheting this blanket! Madelinetosh merino light flying out the door, one shipment after another, OUT THE DOOR! We're actually waiting on another shipment right now... So anyway, my project details are up on ravelry- big thanks to Carrie, we all enjoyed this mindless, but nonetheless beautiful project!

With fall here and knitting back in full swing, I've been pondering upon what I want to knit first. I just balled some Acadia, and am thinking about Kate Gagnon Osborn's Avery cowl. It's a free ravelry download so check it out. I think I need to make mine a little longer, I'll make sure I post my adjustments as soon as I get started. It's nice to be back in knitting mode, and with all of the new yarns coming in for fall, such as Misti Alpaca Chunky and lots of Tosh, my head is spinning with ideas for new patterns. The Rowan magazine 50 finally made it's way into the shop too and we just stocked up Rowan Lima. Enjoy your knitting! I need to put some new yarn away...

It's a button thing...

I know it's been a while since I've blogged, and so much has happened around the shop, where do I begin? Shipments of new yarn, new patterns, and I know we go a little crazy about the buttons around here, but they are pretty fabulous if you have a button thing. Most of our knitters have a "button thing", especially when they look like this....

Hand cut and carved buttons made of horn and bone from Nepal and beautiful hand dyed Tagua nut buttons from the Equador rain forest. If you're curious as to what Tagua nut is and how it's used, here's a link. You can read up on the Tagua Initiative and how it's employed so many local artisans in this region. I love that we can support that here...

Moving Mud sent us a sweet care package this week as well, a box of hand blown glass shawl closures in a variety of sizes and amazing colors. I had just pulled a few skeins of Fibre Company for a new pattern I'm thinking of, I think this closure might be on hold for me. The closures make the shawl, just as the buttons make the sweater (and the shoes make the dress)...

If you've been waiting to squeeze a skein of Blue Sky Alpaca's Techo, then come on over! I love it!!! It's a blend of baby alpaca, extra fine merino and silk... I can't wait to cast on, but which pattern, hmmm... The new patterns from Blue Sky and Spud & Chloe are here too. I love the Shawl Collared Vest and the Secret Garden Cardigan. Once I finish my Madelinetosh merino light throw, which I'll be posting pictures of soon, I'll be free to start a new project, until then, happy knitting!!!

Blue Sky Trunk Show.....

A trunk show packed with goodies arrived last Friday, and we're all loving these pillows! They're on the couch here in the shop, and I don't think I'll be able to send them back! Knit out of Spud n' Chloe's Outer, they're a super wash cotton merino, and so so soft! There are a bunch of sweaters to ogle over as well, I really love the BeTween Cardigan knit from Sweater...

and the Everyday Hoodie knit from Blue Sky's dyed cotton...

In honor of the trunk show and all of their loyal fans, all of the Blue Sky Alpaca and Spud n' Chloe yarn is 10% through May! This week, our friend Lisa, came over with a few of her favorite sweaters for us to borrow and display around the shop for a little bit of inspiration. Lisa knits so beautifully and we're always in complete awe over her work. I had to display her Que Sera Cardigan, one of Kirsten Kapur's designs for Knitty. She knit her sweater out of Fibre Company's Terra in Nettle, which is my very favorite color of Terra. It's a gorgeous silk blend, so soft and perfect for a spring cardi, and the pattern is free, so you may want to stick in your que! Look at Nettle, it's heaven!

I LOVE Lisa's Tie Sweater from Blue Sky Alpacas, it's knit out of Blue Sky Suri Merino, so obviously, it's to die for. It's fairly simple and quick to knit. She hasn't worn it yet, I may have to try this on for an hour or a day, just kidding- it's sooo soft... If only there were just a few more hours in the day!!! Oh that pink cowl, btw, is a crocheted cowl I just finished, which I haven't taken pictures of, or blogged about yet. I'll have to do that after I finish and take pictures of my New York Cardigan. Nevertheless, for the cowl, I used 3 skeins of Malabrigo Silky Merino, and here's a link to the pattern. Really simple and quick, if you're looking for a mindless crochet pattern, this is great and I wear it a lot.

Ok, off to knit my cardigan, happy knitting on this snowy April day!!!

madelinetosh merino dk...

With every shipment of Madelinetosh, comes a wave of inspiration and new ideas for projects! Thanks to our ingenious friend, Kpoz (ravelry name), we're continuously being introduced to the patterns we must have missed while on our quest to fill up our ques. One cardigan she pointed out to me, which I really like, is the New York Cardigan. It's a top down sweater (I think) which means it'll be a quick knit, and it's perfect for spring either out of the suggested Blue Sky Alpacas Silk or Madelinetosh merino dk, you can find the pattern here on ravelry. Another cardigan idea is the Abalone, which is a free pattern btw... It's a toss up, maybe I need both, and these amazing colors make it really hard to choose. I love the two colors I posted above: Clover and below: Thoreau...

We're also restocked on One World's gorgeous hand carved horn and bone buttons, as well as new shawl closures and notions from Lantern Moon. I love their new Knit Out Boxes, we have them in every color. A few weeks ago, a customer came into the shop wearing the most adorable beret that her grandmother had knit for her years ago. She didn't have the pattern, so the hunt began. Hmmmm well wouldn't you know, it exists indeed and it's the Stratum Beret from Kelbourne Woolens (of course)! It took 2 skeins of Terra, and knit up in a couple of days. I've been in love with their new colorways, and my daughter chose Sorrel weeks ago for a hat, so that was that! Courtney Kelly of Kelbourne Woolens, just had her latest design, the Lace Cardi in Vogue Knitting, did you see this ? I need to knit this asap, I can't wait.

I just ordered Savannah today in every color, it's a gorgeous Dk blend of wool, cotton, linen and soya- perfect for spring. Now I just need to decide on a color...

Yesterday, we received a rather large shipment of Madelinetosh merino light and merino dk. I don't really need to tell you how absolutely stunning these colors are, I actually grabbed 2 skeins of tosh merino light in Well Water and Amber Trinkett for a change since I keep missing out on it. I'm going to try my best to get it up on the website, but it's flying out the door so fast. By the time I'm done shooting the pictures, there won't be much left. I'll attempt that tomorrow, today I'm busy thinking about patterns for my tosh merino light...

For the first Northern New Jersey Yarn Crawl... There's a scavenger hunt, raffles to everyone who makes a purchase for one of our amazing door prizes from Blue Sky Alpacas, Spud & Chloe, and Tilli Tomas. With all of the stress I've had this winter, I could use a little fun right about now.

It's no secret that we as a knitting community at large look out for one another, it was recently brought to my attention that some of the ladies from the local knitting area, so generously created a knitted and crocheted piece to raffle off for my family. Since my husband's tragic accident in September, it has truly warmed my heart to feel the love and concern from so many knitters I've come to know over the years. Here's a little bit of information that was sent to me regarding the raffle for this one of a kind shawl inspired from the Prudence Mapstone's Falling Leaves design (pattern available on Ravelry)...

We have tons of books here, the book signing will be 12-5. I can't wait to see all of the samples and meet the girls! It's going to be a really great day...

Sunday the 20th, Kirsten from Through the Loops will be here for the day with a trunk full of designs to share with us, her patterns are incredible, there's simply not enough time in the day... agh! You won't want to miss this!

koigu on a cold winter's day...

In the blink of an eye, I ordered it, and it came. Where we're putting this amazing shipment of kpm and kpppm, I have no idea. Perhaps I'll just leave it all over the table and stare it for a while, or maybe I'll actually start crocheting the most gorgeous blanket on the planet. Either way, I'm always so happy when we get a shipment of Koigu. Love through color for sure. We had a lot fun shipments this week, Namaste sent us a batch of their ingenious circular needle cases (pictured below), Bitty Bags, and mini pouches (which are adorable). I'm in the process of getting them up online...

Our dear friend Kirsten, swung down for a visit (of course I missed her) to stock our Through the Loops binder full of fabulous patterns. I neeeeeeed to knit an Ida's Kitchen really bad. For the past few weeks, I've been filling a ton of online orders for Blue Sky sport weight, and feeling a little jealous. It's my favorite hat right now, it would be nice if I actually had one!

Let's see, what else, oh um just a couple of baskets full of Jade 2-ply cashmere, here's a little handful of the colors we got in last week. They look really pretty together. I love Tea Leaves...

It's a little dangerous owning a yarn store, as you can only imagine!!! You see a sweater you'd love to knit, but of course you can't just knit it out of the bajillions of different yarns you already have in your store, you need to order all new yarns in a ton of new colors. So I ordered a bunch of 2-ply, I have some Tosh Merino light set aside along with Kidsilk Haze, and I still can't make up my mind. Here's the sweater, isn't it great? It's in the Helga Isager's book, Strikketoj, it's the Dropped Stitch Sweater and I really need to knit it!

Alright, back to being indecisive about colors and yarns, too much to choose from I guess. Our dear friends at Angelfire have been more than generous in helping me knit these amazing hand knit thank yous for Ted's nurses and therapists at the hospital. As fast as they're coming in, I'm tying them up in a bow and handing them out to the angels that dote over him each and everyday. I'm so grateful to my friends here and to the staff at the hospital for genuinely sharing the love.... It truly warms my heart.

If you were wondering just how simple it is to whip up one of these incredibly soft and cozy cowls, here it goes:

US 13 16" circ
c/o 60 sts, join in the round and knit until you have just enough to bind off. Bind off loosely. And that's it!

Cristallo Beaded Cowl...

Before I introduce my latest pattern, I need to thank all of my friends, family, and my amazing customers for supporting me through this tremendously difficult time. I wouldn't have the strength to get up and do what I do every morning without the undying love and support from everyone around me. I'll be forever grateful from the bottom of my heart, truly. My husband is improving everyday, and with love and prayer, and a little time to heal, he'll get there. He's starting to verbalize and make strong connections, GO TEDDY!

The night before Teddy's accident, I blocked my latest design called the Cristallo Beaded Cowl. I couldn't get it out there, for obvious reasons, and I'm really excited that it's finally up! It's knit with my favorite yarn in the world, Blue Sky Worsted Hand Dyes and Tilli Tomas Angel, which is a beautiful beaded mohair. I hope you like it! Here are the details:

Skill level: Easy
Finished Measurements: Approximately 44” around by 22” wide
Gauge: 12sts = 4” in wrapped cable pattern
Yarn: Blue Sky Worsted Hand Dyes- 3 skeins,
Tilli Tomas Angel 2 skeins
Needles: US 13/5.5mm needles to obtain gauge

Hey there everybody, just a little FYI... all of that gorgeous new yarn that we received last week is all up on the website now. So, near and far can all ogle at the amazing new colors of Malabrigo Sock & Worsted, as well as Manos del Uruguay's latest addition to their collection of yarns, Lace & Maxima...

I'm here with 7 very large boxes of yarn, thinking about rearranging the shop a little to accommodate it all. Then I'll get busy taking pictures and adding it all to the website. Here's a little peak at the Manos del Ururguay Lace that is sitting on my desk waiting for me to decide on a pattern for it. It's so soft and these colors are stunning. We also received Maxima from Manos as well, a single ply superfine merino that I will be balling today for a shrug for Scarlett. As soon as we get back from school pick up, she can choose a color. Maybe she'll have an easier time that I am, jees they're all too nice. On that note, I will need to close the doors of the shop daily from 2:40 -3:10 to pick her up from school, sorry for any inconveniences, but I gottts to get my baby!

Oh wait, before I forget, today's delievery also restocked our Malabrio sock, worsted, and twist. I'll get it all up on the site as soon as I can. Happy knitting!!!

spotlight on canopy...

After being stuck in a knitting freeze for way too long, I've been warmed back on board with a little help from our dear and most talented friend, Kirsten of Through the Loops. I know I know, I just bogged about one of her latest designs, Roma, but now that I've knit another beautiful pattern of hers called Andrea's shawl, I must share again. This pattern has to be one of my favorites so far... EVER! I love that the lace work is done first, and then it's a smooth sailing of simple decreases until the end, bravo! I've been dying to knit with Fibre Company's Canopy fingering forever too, and having the chance to use these two colors together was perfect. I could not believe how this yarn changed after I blocked it, I thought it was soft before? It is amazingly soft now, I can't wait to wear this shawl (and knit another one)! ps.. Congratulations to my little girl on her first day of 1st grade, where does the time go? I'm so proud and so unbelievably grateful to have such an angel in my life...

Just a quick thank you to everyone who came out to last night's stitch n' pitch, it was a blast, and a great big thanks to Carolyn who always adds a ton of enthusiasm and encouragement to knitters and especially to those who are curious to try it someday. I'm so grateful to all of those who donated to Bella's fund, that was a success too! I mustered the guts to throw out a pitch, and it was actually a lot of fun! Now it's time to ball some yarn and get knitting, fall is around the corner. The shawl I'm wearing in the picture above is a new pattern from Through the Loops, called Roma. We have the pattern in the shop now, along with some of her other recent designs. I loved knitting it and it kept me nice and warm last night, I used Jade Sapphire 2-ply for my shawl and it's just amazing... Here's a closeup of Roma...

We're just about done wrapping it up for stitch n' pitch tomorrow night, ohhhh my nerves. It was brought to my attention this morning that I was throwing out the opening pitch to the game. WHAT!?! Are they sure about this? Oh well, I'll just close my eyes and pray for the best. We've got some really nice door prizes for the raffle, and I truly hope that our fund raiser for Bella is a success!

I wanted to let everyone know that the new fall knitting and crochet schedule is up, so go ahead and check it out. If you have any questions regarding the classes, please feel free to call the shop!! It has been a bit of a madhouse since we received our first installment of Madelinetosh merino light. Knitters were calling from all over the country to purchase this marvelous single ply and there is just a smidgen of it left. Our next shipment is due to arrive in 2 weeks, so keep a look out for it. This week , our friend Kirsten stopped by with her latest design, Lonicera. I love this simple vest/wrap and the bamboo lends the most amazing drape. However, there are so many fabulous yarns that would work up just as lovely, I can see it in Blue Sky Suri Merino which would be amazing for fall and winter. This year we will be participating in the stitch n’ pitch event on August 27th at the TDBank Ballpark in Bridgewater. The tickets are $10 each and the game starts at 7:05. We'll be there to answer any of your questions regarding upcoming fall classes and we'll be offering free knitting and crochet techniques as well. She’s the daughter of a old friend of mine who has undergone a tumultuous quadruple amputation due to a serious infection called Streptococcus Pneumoniae. Our oh so lovely friend Lindsay, just released her very first sweater pattern this week called Fairly, it's looks too cozy to resist knitting, here are the details!

This is a great sweater for beginners, with simple increases and decreases for shaping, and for more advanced knitters that want to keep their hands occupied without having to pay a lot of attention to a pattern.

It's a fairly simple construction with the sleeves worked in one long rectangular piece and seamed to create the sleeves. The body of the sweater is then picked up from the sleeves and knit from the top down.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Sizing: S (32-34"), M (36"-38"), L (40-42"), XL (44-46"), XXL (48" - 50")

Gauge: Sleeves- 16 sts and 26.5 rows = 4" in Garter Stitch on US 10 ½
Body- 16 sts and 22 rows = 4" in Stockinette on US9

This week, I've been trying to get through some of the baby gifts that I really need to finish. Our neighbor's baby Stella, who I knit that adorable pink Koigu dress for last year just turned one and I love knitting these little girlie girl sweaters. While ogling over the Manos silk blend in Spumoni, I stumbled across Stefanie Japel's Whirligig Shrug in Interweave Knits, Weekend 2009 and had to make this for her. It only took one skein for the 12-18 month size and no time at all. I trimmed it with Tilli Tomas Disco Lights for a little girlie glitz, it's too cute. I might need to alter this for Scarlett and then maybe for me! I love the seed stitch peplum and the flairy sleeves, I can't wait to try it on her!

I don't have the Spumoni colorway up on the website yet, so if you're looking for it just send me an email, we have plenty!

If you're thinking of what to knit with on these terribly hot days, The Fibre Company's Canopy fingering is a beautiful choice. It's lightweight and cool, and the bamboo lends a little shine not to mention it comes in the most amazing colors. Today, one of our favorite knitters came by to purchase a handful of it to knit the Olive Blouse, it's going to be gorgeous! Ok, off to weave in ends, cast on for something, bind off for something else, and take pictures. Happy knitting and stay cool!

Last week, we celebrated Scarlett's kindergarten graduation! I have to share this with you, because just 5 years ago (already), she was this beautiful little baby everyone fought over to hold in the shop. Now, in just a few of months, she'll be boarding a school bus for the first time. Look at my baby now, where does the time go? I'm so so so so proud of my little girl, she did an amazing job in kindergarten this year, she's so respectful and sweet to everyone around her, I'm so grateful.

Between end of school pool parties every other weekend and our new online store, I've been having a really hard time focusing on one project at a time, which is not like me at all. I've been known to advocate finishing what you start before you begin something new. However, at this moment, I have 3 projects going all at once. I think the patterns are really great, so I figured I'd share them with you in case you were looking for something fun for the summer...

I've been looking for a project to feed my crochet bug for a while, so after scrolling through what ravelry had to offer, I finally found this great shawlette pattern by Kristy Ashmore. It's called Simple Scallops. It's easy and mindless, it's exactly what I was looking for! I'm using Madelinetosh sock in Kale, on a K hook. It's flying by, but like I mentioned earlier? Not really focusing!

Sooooo, on to the next unfinished project which should have been gift wrapped, opened, oooohed & ahhhh over by now, is Oh, Handsome Winter Sweater. Get it together Justine!!! So easy, it's all done, I just have to sew on the sleeves and pick up stitches for the neck. Sheesh! I striped it with Dream in Color Classy's Midnight Derby and Cocoa Kiss. Cute, I know, or I should say it will be. I'd like to knit one for Wesley out of Lima for the fall, it looks really cozy. This weekend, I will finish 2 of these 3 projects, I'm on it!

Last but not least, the saddest of the bunch, drum roll please.... My Drops Lace top. I love this pattern! I love love love the yarn, so what's the problem? Manos Serena is the softest, loveliest yarn I've knit with in a really long time. I'm selling it online like crazy and the Serena Collection is flying out the door. I loved Roko's version of this top, and if your looking inspiration, you need to check out her project page on ravelry. Impressive? I'd say! I haven't gotten far at all on this one, and I cast on for this project months ago, so sad I know. However, now it's out there, I've exposed my bad knitting habits as of lately and I have no choice but to finish my projects. So you know what I'll be doing this weekend for sure!

I think it's safe to say, that sometimes we all suffer from a bit of knitter's block. I had that moment a few weeks ago. My mind went blank and I felt totally uninspired, yes it even happens to me. When there are so many fabulous patterns out there that you want to knit, but you can't quite commit to one, it gets a little overwhelming. However, sitting in the shop a couple of Saturdays ago, I remembered this incredible pattern from Rowan, and decided that this was the one! This was the sweater that I had to have right away, and I'm sooooo happy I thought of it. Knit on 10.5's, it's pretty quick and it definitely looks a bit more complicated than it actually is. It's knit out of Cocoon, I picked the color "Frost". The only modification I made, was knitting the ribbing on a 9, instead of a 10.5 for a tighter fit on the bottom. I loved how organic it looked, and I knew if it was knit out of Cocoon, it would have an incredible drape. So, needless to say, it has been a real hit in and out of the shop. You can find it in Rowan Magazine 42...

It's been a while since I've put a picture of my little man up on the blog. Here he is in front of his favorite yarn, Blue Sky Alpacas, helping me rearrange (sort of speak)... He's 14 months now, and moving up in the world rather quickly, running around the shop, greeting customers, and being sweet...

In a week or so, I'll be posting information on Carol Cypher's next workshop which will be held on Sunday, April 18th. So stay tuned for that....

Serena, Bumbles, and Mud...

One of the most popular scarves worked on around here lately, is the Bumble Up Scarf from Spud and Chloe. Cleverly knit on 11's, this honeycomb pattern can be knit in just a day or 2. It combines 2 colors of Outer, and when topped with a large glass button from Moving Mud, it's pretty fabulous... Here are a couple of buttons sent to us in this week's shipment. We received a box full of them!!! They're all so beautiful...

What came in today? Ohhhhhhhh Serena, the newest addition to the Manos family. It's an amazingly soft yarn, 60% baby alpaca and 40% pima cotton, how can you go wrong? It gauges 5.5 - 6.5 to the inch in a 4 or 5 needle. The colors are as soft as it feels from the fiber combination, I can hardly wait to get it on my needles. I think maybe I need the Beaded Cami from Black Dog Designs, check it out, it's a free pattern.... hmmmm, what color do I want?

Really Really Last Minute Knitting...

Every year I say to myself, "Oh there's plenty of time". I'm coming to realize- there's no time!!! You can whip up as many projects on size 15 needles, but there's always someone you want to knit for last minute, or a cousin that's going to make this year to dinner this year and therefore you need something you can knit in an hour or so! Yikes, well I have some ideas for you.... One of the gals here, found a fabulous pattern which happens to be a freebie on Ravelry called Marian designed by Jane Richmond, who by the way has a ton of really great designs...

... It calls for 2 skeins of super bulky, we've been using 2 skeins of Blue Sky bulky of course, and size 19 needles. I knit 2 of them for Scarlett's teachers and they took me an hour each, now that's what I'm talking about!!

Knitty just issued their latest collection of patterns, and being that Spud and Chloe just sent us their new colors of outer, we're loving the Shroom hat which calls for 2 skeins. Super quick and this yarn is amazing!!

Speaking of new colors from Spud and Chloe, they're all here, for Outer, Sweater, and Fine, along with their new patterns which are all fantastic. The new Cotton Multi from Blue Sky is amazing!!! I can't wait to work with this yarn- hmmm, maybe I'll crochet with it....

One more quickie that I love is Lisa's Beret from Through the Loops. Last week Ko dropped by with a some of her patterns, all of which I love and can't wait to knit... The Lorna's Bulky that I showed you last week would be perfect for this beret, one skein.

With the holidays right around corner, we're all getting a little crazed with the last minute hustling and bustling. There are some really gorgeous yarns coming through the door, as well as some other goodies that I've been making...

What sock knitter wouldn't love a skein of delicious Madeline Tosh? We just received another shipment from her this week, and there's something really special about this yarn. The way it feels in your hands, instantly inspires you to get it wound and on your needles right away. I'm thinking maybe a pair of Through the Loop's Katinkas for each of my cousins...

Perhaps you want something quick to knit, the Lorna's Laces Shepherd Bulky and Worsted that we got in this week, is amazing!!! With their new colors and lots of fabulous solids, you know I have these 2 colors balled and ready for me knit (or crochet-shhh) tonight... My next pattern is in the works!!!

I've also been working really hard to produce as many yarn bowls and bells as I possibly can, keeping them around is another story. They make such great gifts for the knitter you know, there's another batch in the kiln as we speak, check them out! Whistle while you work...

I'm not so sure I've ever worked so hard in my entire life, the weeks are flying by... Before we know it, the bells will be ringing, and the holidays will be here... The shop has been bustling with customers stocking up on holidays knitting projects, and I've been knitting up a storm, and finishing up the first batch of bells. Here you go... Most have dibs on them already, so hurry. I'll be throwing another batch this Saturday though, I'll make as many as I can...

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the city for dinner, and as I walked past Bergdorf's, I saw this beautiful lacy doubled cowl. It had thicks and thins of different colors, and it looked airy and warm all at the same time. I figured I better get started on this right away, so we can all have one asap!!! It's been a huge hit at the store, and the yarn is flying out the door for it. I'll have the pattern finished in a day or 2, let's say for sure by Saturday.... See you then!

The first batch of yarn bells have been fired, and awaiting their glaze. I'll be tending to that tomorrow, and throwing another batch as well. You've been asking, and we're making it happen! The shop will be open on Sundays from 12-4 starting this Sunday... very exciting!!! I've been working on a few things that I'm dying to share, but this rain has put a "damper" on me being able to shoot a few pics...
On another note, the Madeline Tosh is gorgeous, and has been a real hit around here, I can hardly wait for our next shipment... I'll be adding pictures and more details soon, in the meantime, I have to knit my Etole la Droguerie out of Madeline Tosh sock, and Rowan Kidsilk Haze... Au revoir, happy knitting!!!

Lately, with all the teething going on, there have been many hours spent just walking the floors. I have to admit, with a face this cute, I hardly mind. With that being said, there's been little time or energy to post anything new on the blog, but I thought this was so adorable, so I had to share it... I noticed that I had these leftovers in a bowl at home, and of course, they just so happened to be the perfect colors, if put together, for a baby hat! I used a variety of different weights from Aspen to Unikat, just to give it some texture. I casted on 88 stitches on a us 7 16"circular, knit about 6.5 inches and then started my decreasing. I knit in st st, except for my color change rows, where I purled the new color. It's so sweet on him, and a great way to use some of your stash, you know, that thing that haunts us all?

It looks like some of my Madeline Tosh is on it's way as of today, now I can get ready to cast on for the Tempest cardigan, I've been waiting forever to find the right yarn, and this might be it!! The colors of Madeline Tosh sock are gorgeous, and with their permission I'm going to post a couple of pics from their website... Here is poprocks...

Ok, enough blogging, I have to put some yarn away and then get ready for tonight's class, then dinner reservations at 6:30, then get home and wrap birthday presents for Scarlett's 5th birthday (I can't believe that!), then make cupcakes for school tomorrow, and then........ maybe even knit a row or two!!

New yarns, patterns and books have been arriving daily at the shop, we are so happy to have finally received our Malabrigo sock! I have it on my needles already, working on my Ulmus Rectangle- so far- so fab... Now, we're trying to wait patiently for our Madeline Tosh... Very exciting!!! The first time I laid eyes on this hat, I knew I had to have one. Of course with a bajillion things going on needles and a million on my list, this took some time to get to. Until, last week or so, Ko came in with her girls, and they picked out colors for a second Sikkim, and then that was it! I couldn't wait any longer! Once we started mixing color combinations, the inspirations and temptations were all that I could handle. I went home to think about what I wanted and I'm so happy with the end result. I used 2 skeins of KPPPM, one a peach multi and the other a dark olive multi. The natural is a Blue Sky Alpaca sport weight. I love the way the colors play off of one another, and the hat knits up rather quickly. Scarlett loved it, and put it on immediately, hopefully I'll get to wear it one day. In the meantime, staring at her wearing "our" hat brings me much joy... I'll have the pattern for Sikkim in the shop, along with Kirsten's new and fabulous Ulmus Rectangle pattern. You'll love this one too! I can hardly wait to cast on....

Lately, without warning it seems, my eyes have just been welling up with tears... My baby is going to kindergarten!!! To think she started coming with me to work since she was just a little over a month old... All of my customers have watched her flourish over the past (almost) 5 years, and it has really been a beautiful journey to say the least. I guess when I look back over the years, I feel so very grateful that I've worked this hard at creating an establishment that would allow me to do what I love so much and spend each and every day with my children in the process. To all of my customers who have supported me, and allowed me to grow as well, thank you.

So enough with my mushiness, my favorite gal pal needed a new special cardi for kindergarten! I think my favorite book of all time for the kids is The Rowan Story Book of Little Knits. We browsed through the patterns together a few weeks ago in the shop, and Scarlett picked Quail, by Marie Wallin.. It's a cozy cardigan, which is perfect- just what we wanted. We loved the stripes, and of course my favorite detail is the crocheted scalloped edging, the ideal touch for a girly girl. We chose Cashmerino aran, because she loved the colors, and there you have it.. Check her out- I think she loves it!!

What a week! There have been so many yummy yarns coming in every day. From new colors of Terra and Worsted Hand Dyes from Blue Sky, to Dream in Color's lace weight, Baby (pictured above). 700 yards of a slightly thinner Smooshy- hmm what to do what to do.... I don't know where to start. I've got a cardigan for Scarlett on my needles, and I just finished my Springtime Bandit in Terra. I love this shawl, it took only 4 skeins, and the pattern is free...

Last week, I knit a shawl that I found on ravelry out of Noro silk garden and a couple of skeins of Manos. It was a colorful twist on a basic shawl pattern that took only 2 days to knit and was totally mindless.. The author of Knitalong, Larissa Brown, has a gorgeous blog if you haven't seen it already, it's so worth the visit. Her blog, is one that I find myself marveling through whenever I need to quench my creative thirst.

I'm off to knit until my hands quit tonight, I'm dying to cast on for High Line, Through the Loop's latest shawl pattern- out of Blue Sky's worsted hand dyes of course... I'm balled and ready to roll!!!

Last week, Lindsay came rushing in, on a mission to whip up the Claudette Hat- she needed Koigu in a hurry! When it was finished (the next day), she tried it on- and it was no wonder why it was a must have emergency! It's so fab!!! This sassy little number took 3 skeins of Koigu, held double (woo hoo- quick)... For all of you ravelers, you can find the pattern here, if not- it can be purchased on Etsy. It's a clever yet very simple pattern, basically a basket weave strip that is wrapped and tucked- I love it!!

It's been a little crazy over here, we received a beautiful, as always, shipment from the Fibre Company. New colors of Terra, and a replenishment of Road to China Light, which has been flying out the door since I posted my Ulmus last week. I think I'm going to grab 4 skeins of Terra in Acorn, to knit me the Springtime Bandit by Kate Gagnon Osborn... Terra feels so luscious in a skein, knitting it must be amazing... I can't wait. This is another fabulous accessory, perfect for fall and the pattern is FREE!!!

ooooh! ps! The new fall colors of Worsted Hand dyes came from Blue Sky Alpacas, and it just so happened that a fantastic, gorgeous, to die for shawl pattern is on it's way from our dear friend at Through the Loops, sneak a peak, and then- we'll be seeing you over here for some worsted, I'm soooo knitting this in Blue Sky's new colorway Petunia (or maybe Mulberry)!!

My Ulmus.....

Although I haven't blogged much this summer, I have been knitting and crocheting like mad. I started my Ulmus back in June, and I LOVED every minute and every row. I love the colors I chose, and I fell in love with the Fibre Company's Road to China Light (in Citrine). The lavender multi is a Koigu kpppm, I'll have to post the color way next time I blog! The combination of these two yarns created the most amazing drape. This is an simple pattern, a fabulous beginner lace project, and the result is gorgeous. I encourage you to try it, we have some hard copies of the pattern for sale in the shop, or you can purchase and download it straight from the Through the Loops pattern store... A summer tee for my honey...

This June, Scarlett graduated from Nursery school, where does the time go? I feel like I blinked, and all of a sudden my baby girl has collected her "diploma" and is off to kindergarten (a big sigh). Going to work in your mama's yarn shop every day means, hmmm, what can my mom knit for me now? Well, she certainly needed something new and fabulous for all of her hard-earned achievements. After browsing through few patterns together on ravelry, we settled on this yoke top, by Knitterific.com. I figured this would be fantastic out of Blue Sky skinny cotton, with skinny stripes of course. I couldn't be happier with the fit, and Scarlett loves her new top!! Check it out...

This pattern was super easy and I loved that unlike most top down sweaters, there were only 2 rows on increases done in the ribbing around the neck, very cool. The skinny cotton is so nice to knit on a size 6 needle, it almost feels stretchy, and it's cool enough to knit with in this beautiful sunshine that has finally found it's way!! Our neighbors, whom we love very much welcomed their second child this past week, for them- it meant paint the nursery, stock pile the diapers, and buy lots of clothes with ribbons and lace. For me of course, it meant stand in front of the KPPPM for 3 hours until I decide on a color, and then contemplate on which pattern for another 3 hours... I was spoiled a bit, I must say, with this last shipment of Koigu, the colors were insanely gorgeous, each and every one. I chose the Dress with Eyelets, from Debbie Bliss, and I could hardy resist this magenta multi. I crocheted a shell stitch on the botton of the dress out of a solid Koigu, it was perfect. It was received extremely well, and it's safe to say, there was even a tear or two. That completed the gift...

This week has been crazy at the shop, with the arrival of Spud and Chloe, we officially have half of the shop dedicated entirely to Blue Sky, Spud and Chloe, and all of it's yummy goodness... The patterns are incredible, the yarn? It speaks for itself, I'm casting on tomorrow night- you didn't expect me to decide on a color in one whole work day, now did you? I don't know what more you really need, Blue sky has covered all bases, the yarn defines perfection, you must come to look and feel!! I'm so excited to go to work tomorrow!

I was so tickled when Kirsten had asked if she could borrow baby Wes to model her AMAZING cabled vest- "Pembroke". Take a look, and check out the website. I finished this fabulous little sweater last week (ok, maybe 2 weeks ago), but I haven't had much time to sit and blog lately. Hanna Fettig's "Whisper Cardigan" is a lovely pattern to knit. It was featured in the Spring 2009 Interweave, and seriously, I'm knitting another one- no doubt. Koigu? Ooooh, Jitterbug in Oyster Blush or Vatican Pie. It's knit in one piece, no sewing at all- what a treat... Oh, and the Malabrigo lace, I love it, I'm hooked completely- we just got some more in, and the colors are amazing. This is Tortuga, I'm more than happy with it (in case you can't tell)... If you come by to check out the lace, be sure to look for Indigo- it's really pretty...

A few weeks ago, I was so delightfully surprised to hear from Carol Cypher! If you know Carol, you would agree, that just the sound of her voice is simply enough to brighten your day. Since having the baby, things have been a bit hectic, and I not always the best in keeping in touch. It often seems that there are never enough hours in the day, so I was really happy to hear from her (maybe even a little relieved). She called just to touch base and say hello, I was so glad. This week, however, I had a minute to give her a call, and decided to ask her to come down and visit, perhaps schedule a workshop, it's been too long. I miss Carol, and I also miss the felters who come from near and far, just to spend the afternoon felting together in my shop! It's always a blast. We decided on hand felted purses and vessels- how fabulous! Carol comes on June 28th from 12-5... There is no time to waste, if you want to sign up, do it asap, her workshops fill really quick!!! Here are a couple of examples... Pretty amazing!!!

So often in the shop, crocheters fall in love with a knitted garment and ask me to convert the pattern from knit to crochet, and visa versa. I'd love to, and for the most part I have no problem figuring it out for myself- however, I'm not sure that I feel too confident passing it along to someone else. Luckily, the book "Knit or Crochet" by Margaret Hubert is complete with hook and needle instructions for 15 projects. Finally, there are options for everyone, very cool!

Don't ask me how this happens, but there seem to be a few books out there, that have in fact been out for some time now, that somehow, I've never seen! I don't know how this happens, but it does, like "Knitalong", by Larissa Golden Brown and Martin John Brown. Hello? What? This is a fabulous book!! Someone in the shop happened to be knitting "The Entomology Mittens" (so amazing) that are featured in the book, and I fell in love with them so I had to browse through it. It just so happens, that this book also holds the pattern for the next throw on my list, the "Barn Raising Quilt". I love this quilt thanks to Pamie! Take a look, this is a picture of the blanket from the book, knit from sock yarn scraps- to die for if you ask me, I must have this!!!

I think my favorite favorite favorite book right now, has to be "Pet Projects: The Animal Knits Bible" by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne. Not only are there beautiful and unique projects for your pets, like a hamster house and party collars for your pups, there are other projects- such as my favorite, the knitted wire bird feeder! This is the coolest, so Home Depot here I come- like this Sunday!! I love the horse blanket too, so so pretty... Even if you don't have a pet of your own, I think it's a really beautiful book. I'm not exactly a "cat lover", but I have to say the mouse blanket is pretty adorable!!!

I was finally able to finish Scarlett's "Monica" tank from knitty this past weekend. We were really hoping to snap some silly photos outside, maybe on a sunny day next to the start of our garden, but..... it seems like we would have to wait until next week to do that! Oh sun, where are you already? I'm listening to the pouring rain right now as I type and my hands are freezing! She tried it on though, and it is oh so cute, so I let her wear it tonight when she was playing with her dolls. She absolutely loves it, it's super girlie (and a cinch to knit). She picked out the colors (Dk cotton from Rowan), if only she could wear it, over a tee shirt this weekend, perhaps.

kimono baby...

Although I knit this adorable kimono sweater for baby Wes before he born, I haven't had a chance to take a picture of him wearing it until last week. If you're in need of a quick baby gift, this sweet little sweater takes no time at all. In fact, I'm even thinking of knitting another one out of a spring yarn- maybe the Organic Cotton from Rowan. The pattern is a free ravelry download called "Garter Stitch Kimono" by Joji Locatelli. I used just 3 balls of Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino on a size 4 needle. I think it's pretty cute, and I think baby Wes likes it too!

I'm just wrapping up the "Monica" tank for Scarlett out of Rowan Dk cotton, and then off to start my "Whisper" cardigan with the Malabrigo lace that came in last week. Of course, it arrived while I was away in Disney with the kids, so I didn't get first dibs on color, but that's ok, they're all pretty beautiful (I'm thinking Hollyhock)!!! Nothing but Blue Sky's...

It's no secret that we love the yarns from Blue Sky Alpacas! We're always so excited to open our shipments, whether it's a new delicious color way, or a simple organic cotton. Their yarns are gorgeous, their colors are to die for, in fact the only thing I can complain about, is that when I choose their yarn for a project (for instance right now, "Rosa" by Kim Hargreaves), it takes me forever to pick a color, seriously like over a week!!

Erika knits non-stop (I'm jealous), she just finished her "Dulce de Leche" sweater designed by Marnie MacLean of Twist Collective. She knit her new favorite spring sweater on a 3 needle, with 7 skeins of Alpaca silk in "Peapod". We were all drooling over it on Saturday, it fits her so beautifully. The pattern had some w&t's that she decided not to do, but I'm sure she'll post her modifications on her ravelry page. Then of course we needed to put a call into Sarina from Moving Mud, Erika needed buttons that were just right, and of course, they're perfect! A black and white swirl with splash of green, oh life is good!!

My cousin is having her first baby this May, and I thought, since I finished (almost shhh) the "Babette Blanket" for Scarlett and loved the pattern so much, that it would be perfect in the Blue Sky cotton. I figured on an H hook, crocheting blocks 1 through 5 would be the perfect size for a baby blanket, and it was!! It measures about 32" by 32". I used 4 colors of cotton, 1 skein of each, except for the color I chose to crochet the border in, that requested 2 skeins. The pattern is so applicable to any yarn, and any hook size. It's a mindless crochet project and the end result is always so much fun. I used one of a new color ways that was introduced this season called "Jasper". Blue Sky spoiled us this season once again with new color ways in "Hand dyed Cotton" and "Alpaca Silk", and we have them all!! Happy knitting and crochet!! If you're going to be looking for me tomorrow, I'll be standing in front of the Alpaca silk trying to decide on a color for my "Rosa" sweater- so far I'm leaning toward "peridot".

Spring has sprung!!!

Just because the sun is shining a little brighter these days, don't think our knitting has slowed down one bit around the shop. If anything, we're knitting faster!! I happened to be in a knitting race (arrr) with one of my customers! Why I challenged this particular speed knitter to knit a sweater out of Kid Silk Haze is beyond me, but I'm glad I did actually It's really pretty and perhaps I would have passed it up, the pressure of the race has definitely added some fuel to my knitting fire. The sweater is called "Spook" from the Rowan magazine #43, an a-line cut sweater with tapered sleeves, I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished (and wearing it).

It's an elegant, airy top, perfectly light for spring. I'm almost finished with the back, and I'll start the front tonight (hopefully). I picked a really sweet lemongrass color from Kid Seta, and I love it! So, that's challenge #1. Challenge #2 came my way yesterday when Carolyn and Robyn were challenging each other in knitting "Jasmine" from the Nectar book by Kim Hargreaves, her patterns are so fabulous. So of course I couldn't resist, this sweater is also a must have for spring. Isn't it great? I'm ordering lots of 4-ply cotton for the store this week, so come and join our Jasmine challenge- maybe there will even be a prize for the winner, we'll see!!! Again, knit on a us 2 needle, this isn't exactly a "quickie" project- but well worth it, I'm sure... Oh before I forget to mention, the shop received some new spring yummies such as, the new colors of Bonnie's Bamboo from Farmhouse Yarns, Lenpur Linen from Rowan (great colors), and all of the new colors of Organic Cotton and Alpaca Silk from Blue Sky Alpacas- all mouth watering I must say!! This blog post wouldn't feel complete unless I mentioned the Pinwheel Sweater that Lindsay whipped up this week (literally). It's no secret that Lindsay's knitting always a tasty treat for our creative palettes. If you're logging onto Ravelry anytime soon, check out her projects, they're quite impressive. Instead of using multiple colors, as in the original sweater, Lindsay decided to knit it solid in a smokey charcoal grey from Manos, and as you can see, it worked out really well, it look amazing! It's cozy and fabulous, the perfect sweater for those chilly spring mornings and those cool summer nights at the beach. Thanks for sharing Lindsay. Happy knitting everybody!

Babette's Progess and a birthday celebration!

So this weekend, the shop will be celebrating it's 5 year anniversary- so you know what that means? It's our birthday sale- all yarns will be 20% off, and an extra 20% off of the sale yarns as well. It's been a fabulous journey so far, and with the love and support of my customers and friends, I've accomplished quite a bit - I've beaten the business odds (sort of speak) and I've have had 2 beautiful children, who are always treated with such love and kindness from everyone who enters my shop. I'm so grateful- thank you- 5 years have gone by so fast, and we're still going strong even through these tough economic times. We only run a sale once a year, so don't pass up the savings... Sale hours will be: Saturday 11-5:30 and Sunday 12-4.

I wanted to post the progress of Scarlett's Babette Blanket. It's really a lot of fun to make, it's a great mindless crochet project to work on here and there, take a look...

Baby Wes turns 4 months this week, oh how the time flies, I took this picture on the way out the door to work yesterday- soooo cute and squishy! Had to share this...

And my baby girl is growing like a weed, this was a couple of weeks ago, such a beauty, to think I was pregnant with her when I started my shop, and now- she'll be 5 this fall- she's very excited about her Babette blanket so far!!

There's been a real knitting bug floating around the shop lately, the girls and myself- knitting as fast as we can. I mean, the holidays are over, so perhaps it's that we're half way through February and maybe we're feeling like we need hurry before it gets warm. Whatever it is, I'm really liking the last few projects I've worked on, especially today's- The Buttony Sweater by Katie Marcus. I found this on Ravelry (what did we do before Ravelry, I often ask myself). I used Malabrigo chunky in Watergreen, 5 skeins, and made it a short sleeve. I recently ordered these fun paisley shaped buttons for the shop, and they worked out perfectly. We have the buttons in 14 colors, so if you get inspired to whip up one of these fun Buttony sweater's, come and check them out.. This cardigan is top down, so it's super quick, and even though it's a chunky weight yarn, it's not too warm, just cozy.

Then a few months ago, the girls over at Purl posted a pattern for the Lovely Leaf Scarf, soooo super cozy. I love it, and I love this new color from Jade Sapphire, "Peach Honey". This might be the coziest of all, soooo soft and warm, I've been wearing it every day! I'm actually about to Kitchener stitch another one for one of the girls at the shop. I used the Jade Sapphire in 6-ply and just used an 8 needle instead of a 9, and it was perfect. If you want to knit something really special for yourself, this is it.

Finally, I was able to finish my February Lady sweater. It doesn't fit as well, because I had intended to wear this when I was still pregnant, but was just too exhausted to work on anything. It fits okay I guess, but it's a bit roomier than I would have liked it for now. I loved working with the Suri Merino from Blue Sky, and realized that I've knit so many projects with this color in almost all of their yarns. I guess we just gravitate to the same colors because we love them so much. It was really simple to knit, and all three of the projects are free patterns online!!!

I made some changes to the winter/spring knitting and crochet schedule, so here it is! Take a look, there are some new classes that we haven't offered before, and back by popular demand- Hair pin lace!! New - Hairpin Lace Scarf - As seen in Winter 2008 Interweave Crochet. If you can single crochet, you can make this scarf. Crochet for Beginners and Beyond- Crochet is hot! Learn how to chain, single crochet, double crochet and more to create a pretty ruffle scarf. This is the ruffle scarf that was featured in Interweave Crochet Spring 2006. It's a great class for beginners or for those with WIPs (Works in Progress) or UFOs (Unfinished Objects) hiding in the back of their closet who need a jump-start to get the project finished. New - Cache Satchel - This will be Carolyn's first published pattern. Make this great Spring handbag using Egyptian cotton and Entrelac patterning. Tunisian Crochet- Quick Stitches for a Beautiful Woven Look What do you get when you cross a knitting needle with a crochet hook? You get the tool used for Tunisian crochet! Okay, Carmen- I'm blogging!! Things have been a little crazed around here, between baby duties and a crazy shop- there's been very little time to write. However, I've actually gotten some knitting done! After the new year, I decided ( a resolution if you will) that I would knit a few cashmere scarves, a sort of thank you to myself- for a great year at work, and a beautiful healthy baby. The first scarf I decided to knit after seeing Ko's finished, was "Wisp" from Knitty. I love it (and am wearing right now actually). I opted for the long version since I chose to knit it out of Jade Sapphire 2 ply, which has 400 yards, it's a perfect length to wrap around twice. I topped it off with a set of small rounds from Moving Mud, and it's my new favorite scarf.

The second scarf that I started, is the "Lovely Leaf Scarf" from the Purl Bee... It's quite luxurious, if I do say so myself. I'm knitting it with the Jade 6 ply in a new colorway- "Peach Honey". I'm almost finished- I'll post it when it's completed...

There have been some beautiful additions to the shop, such as The Fibre Company!!! I LOVE THIS YARN! This is "Terra", and it's flying off the shelves. The colors are gorgeous and the feel is amazing. It's nubby, and squishy, and delicious and I can hardly wait to knit with it! We also got a shipment of "Road to China", which is decadent. It's a cashmere blend and literally drapes out of your hand.

We also recieved Rowan "Kidsilk Aura". Why I haven't had this yarn in the shop all along is beyond me. It's like a pillow, lofty and soft- and the patterns are lovely. Check out Kim Hargreaves book "Thrown Together" next time you stop into the shop. Erika knit the cover capelet, it's adorable.

The limited edition of Namaste's "Zuma" bags are here, along with their new snap cases and ulitily cases. The utility cases are great for organizing your knitting, which in my case, is a mess in my knitting bag- they're really great if you have more than one project going on.... They're see through, which is great for finding what you need.

Ok, like reeeally last minute knitting!!

So, the kiddies are napping (finally) and my needles have been burning since 6am, so fast I can hardly feel my fingers! I figured, if I type a bit with a quick blog post, maybe I'll regain some of my circulation. I've been wanting to throw some last minute knitted gift ideas your way for a while, but as you can imagine, now that I'm back to work, and the baby, and yadda yadda yadda... time is rather hard to find these days! At any event- I started a really quick knit this morning for my mom, who has been working so hard lately, and then racing to our house on her days off to give us a hand. She mentioned to me that she needed a new pair fingerless gloves, of course she tells me this 3 days ago (keep in mind I'm no where near finished with my holiday knitting)!!! So, yesterday on the way out of the shop, I grabbed a couple of balls of cashmerino aran in a charcoal grey. Of course, I would love to knit her a pair out of some fabulous hand dyed merino, but she's a simple lady when it comes to color (black, brown or grey- I don't really know if you call that simple or what)... I just followed the La Dolce Vita pattern I wrote for Tilli Tomas last year, but with a 4x1 rib, since my mom isn't one for ruffles. Another simple and quick pattern for fngerless gloves, that uses Cashmerino Aran is Fetching from Knitty. Fetching is a super quick knit, however it calls for 1 ball, and I don't know anyone who has gotten away with only one ball of Cashmerino Aran for the pair, so grab two balls - or approximately 140 yds to play it safe...

This neck warmer is an oldie but goodie in my shop. Most importantly, it's the quickest gift ever to knit! A US 17 16" needle, one hank of yummy Blue Sky Bulky, and a skein of Colinette pt 5 is all you need to knit this must have winter accessory- perfect for a day like today. This is a gift that you can knit in one sitting! Cast on 34 sts, join in the round- careful not to twist, and knit knit knit. You can stripe it or design it however you'd like. If you come by, you'll see the store sample- EASY!!

Foliage!!! I love this hat, I knit it in 2 nights, but for anyone who can knit uninterruptedly, 1 night is all you need. It calls for one skein of malabrigo worsted- which I did, however, the pattern also offers a chunky version, which would obviously go quicker..It's adorable on, a great gift!

Then there's the Cabled Hat and Scarf pattern from Blue Sky Alpacas, oh before I forget, there's a great little trunk show in my shop right now, with samples from Blue Sky, that I really do NOT want to return. This pattern calls for their hand dyed Worsted- an absolute luxury to knit with, and those who dare to knit with it, return for more every time. This hat is for my brother, oh I guess he's worthy of my favorite yarn in the world, but he's another one, black, brown, or grey. Maybe it's a hereditary defect...

I figured I would add this one to the list of mindless and speedy gift ideas. It's the award winning suri cowl that we all drooled over last year, and is still so retro and fabulous. One skein, US13 16" circ. Cast on 60, join in the round and knit the entire skein, it really can't be easier. It is so soft and cozy, and I promise you, whoever you knit this for will absolutely love it (and you) forever!!!

Baby Wes got Thorped!!

On Thursday, I brought the baby by to meet the girls and pick up some yarn for more Christmas gifts. Bev and Ko split the shifts on Thursday, and have been doing a dynamite job- thank you! We were all passing the baby around (lots of oohing and aahing) - it's so nice to see everyone welcome baby Wes with such loving arms. Ko handed me a gift bag, and I believe her words were- "oh, here's a little something I knit for the baby". A little something? It's the cutest hat I've ever seen!! EVER!! Wesley got a Thorpe, the best Thorpe on the planet! We were dying, it looked so adorable on him, he looks like a little elf!

She knit his Thorpe with a handspun yarn, however- much to my surprise, the braids and pompom are my very own hand dyed silky merino- yippee!! I love it, it's perfect. It's funny, because I had just printed her pattern for the Thorpe hat, to knit for a few friends- maybe even one for Scarlett, check it out, it's a free pattern download! You'll find her pattern store more than a treat to browse through, and I promise, there will be many designs that will make your mouth water - one of my favorites, are the Genmaicha cabled mitts. I've been delighted and honored to have Ko help out at the shop while I've been home, enjoying the baby. Thanks Ko , not just for the Thorpe, but for inspiring us with all that you do!!

Erika's been knitting on the lamb...

Monday, I stopped into the shop to pick up some roving for a Christmas project that I'm working on, grab some yarn and visit with Erika. She had just finished the Bobbled Tam from the most recent issue of Vogue Knitting. Knit with 2 skeins of Manos silk- wool blend, and I have to admit- I'm a little jealous! I think if she wants to be a really good friend, she should either knit one for me or stick this perfect, silky blue tam in my Christmas stocking (hahaha-hohoho)... It came out really cute, love the color and it fits a bit looser than the one in the magazine, which I like better, I think she likes it better too... It's the perfect accessory for the winter, so soft- and the silk blend will keep her nice and toasty. Erika tends to gravitate toward this beautiful teal color, when the new Namaste Zuma bags came in, she just so happen to grab one in "peacock" for me to photograph. We LOVE these bags!!! The limited edition of Zuma bags in eggplant are on their way as well.

When I brought baby Wes over to meet Erika and her mom last week, Erika surprised me with the most adorable baby sweater!! When did she knit this? Keeping secrets are we? The Pima Tencel she used from Cascade is a perfect choice for a spring sweater and I can't wait to see him in it! I know our friendship is really something, since she made a special button trip to M&J just for me (sigh).

The pattern came from the Debbie Bliss Essential Baby book. I love it- big huge thanks to Erika!! And a big huge to Lindsay who surprised me with a yummy crocheted baby blanket that we use every night!! All of those ends to weave in? That's love!! It's been keeping baby Wes warm and snuggly in his bassinet...

Speaking of crochet, I felt like crocheting from one of my Ondori books. I haven't had a chance to play with the Eco Andaria- Japanese yarn, so I figured I would give it a try. I decided to crochet a few doilies, either for my living room or maybe do a few to give to my mom for Christmas- they're a quick gift idea and I think they're pretty. The yarn is very cool to work with, totally different than anything I've ever used before. It's a good thing I took this picture as soon as I finished them because...
bad dog #1 pulled them off of the kitchen counter, then bad bulldog #2 slobbered all over them and chewed them into tiny bits. Thanks, I love you too guys. They spared me the largest one, so I guess I can add that to the list of things I'm grateful for. Happy Thanksgiving to all, I have so much to be grateful for- my family, great friends, a beautiful healthy baby boy, and wonderful friends who I've made through my shop who are loving and supportive- and a special thank you to the ladies who have been watching over the shop - and allowing me some quiet time with my new baby.

Double Whammy!!!!!!!

Ok, so if there's one thing that I'm not so good at, it's surprises!! So what happened this past Saturday? Apparently, the ladies had a covert operation going under Carolyn's instruction to get together and knit squares for a baby blanket, (out of my favorite yarn in the world, Blue Sky Alpacas worsted). Carolyn had directed each of the ladies to knit a certain size square and then she assembled the most beautiful loving, warm blanket in the world. One of the gals took pictures along the way so that I could see the process- here they are putting their hearts to work on their squares...

And here you have it, the most thoughtful, kind, warm and loving gift that anyone could give. I had to run into the bathroom, just to take a few deep breaths not to cry. This was the sweetest gesture and we will truly cherish this blanket forever. After I opened the blanket, it all started making sense- how a few of the ladies had been me about the colors of the room, and what my favorite yarn was for baby blankets- a ha!!

As I was typing the blog post that you just read (on the 5th), I started having UNBEARABLE contractions. Technically the baby's due date wasn't until Dec.1, and I was scheduled to have him Nov. 24, so almost 4 weeks early- hmmm, I don't know. I knew in my heart I wasn't making it until the 24th, but the 7th? This boy wanted out. Well, after 1 night spent in the hospital and a day of the most terrible medication ever, to try and buy us one more week, baby Wesley Julian decided it was time to make his debut into the world. I'm so relieved it's over and that he's a healthy little man. He weighed 8 lbs 4 oz, yes, that was his weight and if he had waited another 3 weeks, he would've been close to 10 lbs. Ouch!! He's the sweetest baby and we're all doing great. Scarlett is totally in love with her little brother and has more than a help to me. Her behavior and reaction brings tears to my eyes, I couldn't ask for more. Here are some pictures of the baby- beware- he's pretty cute, I can barely stand it.

Well, it's a good thing I decided to crochet my little lady bug the Anne scarf out of cozy malabrigo worsted this week. We left the house this morning, and she said "but mom, my scarf!!" That's my girl!! So quick and sweet, I am planning on whipping one up for myself in Jade Sapphire 6 ply, why not. This oh so pretty scarf is spreading like wild fire. Girls around the shop are crocheting it out of everything from one skein of Blue Sky Suri Merino to Tilli Tomas' Disco Lights. It's finished in almost a single sitting and you may want to consider it for a gift idea- it's quick quick quick!!

One of the ladies stopped in today and mentioned that she would like to sign up for our mitten class, so just a reminder, the Cable and Bobble mitten class is scheduled for November 13th and the 20th 7-9PM. You'll have a ton of Manos colors to choose from for these warm yummy mittens, plus you'll be learning how to cable and make bobbles- so much fun!! Feel free to call 604-4294 to sign up!!

Crazy kiddies!!

This past week was Scarlett's 4th birthday, I know- for all of you who have been part of the Angelfire Studios' family since the very beginning and knew me when I was pregnant with her, it's a bit hard to believe- time flies fast when you're raising babies, knitting, and having fun. She had all of her friends from school come for a pottery party this Sunday, and boy was it a blast! The girls painted pottery, ate lots of pizza and ice cream cake, and then opened a mountain of presents. I'm so relieved that they had so much fun, especially since she's about to be a big sister in a few weeks.

In the meantime, I have been knitting, I just haven't been too good about blogging or taking pictures (been a little tired to say the least). This is the Shawl Collared Jacket from Debbie Bliss that I knit for the baby. I need to knit more, I know- but I've been knitting for the holidays- wanting to get a few gifts out of the way before the baby comes, etc, etc... I used 3 skeins Koigu Kersti for the 3-6 month size- this is the softest yarn in the whole world and knits up like a dream. I love this colorway, I'm really hooked on these greens lately, not sure what that's all about, but for whatever reason, I love it! I have some cargo pants in brown in mind to cast on for, a pattern from Knitty- also so cozy and adorable....

I finished a pair of Malabrigo Loafers from Coco knits for my grandmother, a set of oven mitts and potholders from Noni for my mom,(both of these patterns are available at the shop btw), so I decided what the hey- I'm starting the February Lady Sweater for myself out of yummy Blue Sky Suri Merino- (of course we need some Moving Mud buttons too). It's the perfect sweater for me to wear now and after the baby is born. In fact, what caught my eye when I looked at it originally on ravelry was how cute it looked on a lady who was about as preggo as me!! So there you have it, I have been knitting!! Lord only knows, I'm NOT sleeping!!

Fall is finally here, and I am SO happy that it's cooling down outside. This is definitely my favorite time of year. The leaves are starting to drop and you may find yourself grabbing a sweater on the way out the door!! Yeah- it's sweater weather!! Customers are already starting to shop around for holiday gift ideas, and some of the gals are knitting from the Coco Knits patterns... It's funny, the same day that these patterns came, we got a Malabrigo shipment... Check out some of the patterns...
These are the Malabrigo loafers that are absolutely adorable, if you remember I featured Pamie's loafers a few weeks ago... She used the Colinette's new One Zero for the sole and the Malabrigo chunky for the upper. Then there are the Prairie Boots, another perfect project for the chunky as well- and with a few of the One World buttons? Too cute...

Now, if your brother is anything like mine, he's not going for the loafers or the Prairie Boots, so you may want to look for something with a little less of a fashion statement like the Felted Desk Accessories... Happy knitting!!

The ever so funky Eco Andaria yarns from Japan are now out on display in the shop- and I love having them here. The ladies have been oohing and aahing at the sheen and the amazing colors. From deep chocolate browns to bright golds and reds, one ball is more gorgeous than the next. We will be ordering more books and more Andaria along the way- be sure to check out our Catherine Wheel crochet class offered this fall. We'll be crocheting a must have hand bag with 2 fabulous colors of Andaria. Very exciting!!

This past weekend (I have to use code names here and I'll reveal why later), Peanut butter stopped in with her Christmas present to her sister Jelly -ALREADY FINISHED!!!!! (Did I mention that this is a Christmas present, what a nice sis!) Power knitter on fire, how does she do it? We'll never know- it was done in just a week or two!! This is the Nordic Tradition sweater featured in the current issue of Vogue, however, Peanut butter used Manos wool classica. Take a look- I can't get enough, if I could try it on right now secretly, I would, but we all know it's not fitting over my baby bump! Jealous? Me too, but I have a few little baby sweaters I need to knit from now until November.

So, this is what Peanut butter's been knitting, and here's what I've knit this week- yeah ha ha I know, it's just a Little Lesterella for Scarlett. It's not much, but she's pretty cute. I haven't sewn her eye lids on yet, but I'll get to them. I have to say, this is a really cute gift, done in almost one sitting. Especially, if you have that one skein of Ozark Handspun lying around forever and you don't know what to do with it, well here you go. I'm sure this won't be the last Lester I knit... ps, rereading this blog post, I realize that my code names may be a bit revealing as to what I'm really thinking about as I type...

is just about the coolest fiber ever to be unpacked in this shop!! The colors are unreal, and I seriously can't even wait to attack one of these balls with my crochet hook!! Eco Andaria is an eco friendly fiber made from wood pulp. You see these fibers used in the Ondori crochet books. We are one of the only shops in the US to carry the Eco series, so come over over and check it out, you'll love it. I'd blog more, but I need to shuffle yarns around to make room for my new favorite.....

I wish the pictures would have transferred a bit bigger, but at least you get the idea, funky right? Really looking forward to those. We also have patterns from Wendy Bernard and did you see the new Malabrigo loafers from Coco Knits? Here's Pamie's pair, this pattern is on the way too. I'm telling you, there are so many things for me to knit right now, my mojo is on fire, and I can't click clack those addi turbos fast enough to keep up with myself.

Here's my Road to Golden sweater finally finished (well- technically I knit it 3 times, before I could commit to the color combo, and boy do I love the colors I chose). I love it so much, I just wish I could try it on, but the baby bump is in the way at the moment.

Let's see, hmmm, what is the most exciting I have to share, oh yeah- it's ECO ANDARIA!!! It should be here any minute, and we'll be one of the only shop's in the country to supply it to all of you crazy japanese crochet enthusiasts!! We're getting in everything you need to crochet these...

Last but not least, we got in a nice juicy shipment from out friends at Ozark Hanspun. Both, the original and his new creation- "Opulence", which is a bit thinner and with more yardage. The colors are so great, I have to knit a "Lester Sheep" for Scarlett asap. Maybe one for me too.

in anything knit in Cocoon!! Yup, it just walked in the door- the new colors, well half, I guess the other half is on it's way and the new "Cocoon Collection" by Marie Wallin and Sarah Hatton is here too. Very cool.

I love the book, but I just stumbled across this on Ravelry, and I think my growing belly needs to pop out of it this fall- check it out. I would love to knit it out of cocoon. I'll just adapt the gauge a little. Move over Eva, my belly needs some room here.

Third time's a charm...

Now that I've ripped out my sweater 3 times, I think I am totally in love with the color combo. Thanks to the girls at the shop last Saturday and many laughs (mostly at my expense- whatever), we finally decided that what my sweater needed, was a little bit of love from Dream in Color. Dream in Color can make any color combination come to life. I added in Flamingo pie and took out the blue "Whale of a Skein" and the white Debbie Bliss. Now it gives me the warm and fuzzy feeling that I needed- yeah!!! I only did an inch or two of color so far, a snail's speed is a compliment these days in regards to my knitting.

Yesterday at the shop, I got NOTHING done because I stared at this cubicle all day thinking of things I could make with these fabulous colors. I thought about a few different sweaters, and then just decided to stare some more instead of think at all. Obviously I'm totally enamored with this color palette lately (as you can see with my sweater above). Blue Sky offers one gorgeous color after another, it's unbelievable and they just introduce more and more every year. I love the papaya silk alpaca!!

I now have a new favorite yarn though, it's Colinettte's latest addition to their collection- One Zero. It's their thinner version on Point 5, which we all know and love so much, except it's knit on a 9 or a 10 needle and has 109 yards!!! It's SOOO super soft and the colors are delicious as usual. I really need to pick up the pace with my Road to Golden sweater (above), if I want to get crackin' on all of these other projects that I have in mind, especially that special baby blanket for my little peanut!! Finished, finally!! Well, actually it was finished last week, but I was too tired and lazy to sew on the button. So, wah lah, here it is, cute right? Super easy and fun to do. It's definitely a quickie project if you're crocheting at regular, non preggo speed. Some of the girls around the shop have been coming by this week for crochet quickie to squeeze in between their knitting, this is one of those perfect projects. I held 2 strands of Euroflax together on a G hook, 2 skeins for the bottom color and 1 for the top. We have full supply of these "Summer Hat and Bags" books, so come on over and browse. Each book filled with projects that are so adorable, it's kind of hard to decide which project to start first. Carolyn and I are almost ready to unleash the fall knitting and crochet schedule, and there are plenty of crochet classes for those of you who are ready to hop on our crochet train. There's no reason why you shouldn't, and too many reasons why you should be crocheting at this point. Crochet is ideal for whipping up gifts that are so beautiful, just take a look at some of the projects in these Japanese books, from the petite pouches to the trendy market bags, they're all so terrific. We'll teach you how to read a crochet chart, and the symbols- which are universal. So have no fear when you approach one of these splendid Ondori crochet patterns!!

We received some sweet treats this week, Tilli Tomas sent over a batch of her cell phone cases. Similar to the her "Ruck Sack" bags, you would pick up and knit your way down the pouch. Perfect for scrap yarn, or if you're looking for something special, a little of her gorgeous "Rock Star" hand beaded silk would be decadent if you ask me. We also opened a a box of her mini skeins, if you haven't seen these yet, they are adorable. Each skein has just 25 yards, and can be used for embroidery or simply for embellishing your knitting.

The new colors of Colinette's Jitterbug came in too, the pinkish one in the back of the picture, is a must have for me- that's for sure. The colors are so gorgeous and we are fully stocked to please any color palette! This sock yarn is definitely a favorite around the shop, it wears and washes great. If you haven't tried a pair of socks yet, no worries, we have lots of sock classes coming up this fall too. If you have tried a pair, and you're looking for something a bit more challenging, you might want to sign up for our "Fancy Feet" sock class. I promise, this sock will be the coolest sock you'll ever slip on your foot.

Okay, I had to post this, yesterday, we decided since Scarlett was feeling a bit under the weather still (as you can see in her eyes), that we would bring Honey Bear, her bulldog sister, to work with us. We figured it would be fun, well- it was!! She snorted around the shop for a while, greeted customers with her wiggling and waddling, and then preceded to snore under my desk. We even tried to have her model some of the pieces that were around the shop, but nothing fit over her head! Too cute.

So this week, we found out we'll be expecting a little boy in November!! We're very excited, it was what I was feeling all along, the sonogram was so amazing. I'm feeling much better lately, thank god- 16 weeks is a long time to be so sick, you almost forget what it feels like to feel normal. However, just as I'm feeling good, Mr.Man's birthday has crept up on me, which means it's time for our all out, drag out, birthday bash of a bbq in my back yard. Our annual summer slam party is this weekend!! 94 degrees, is that all? hmmm... I'll be putting my mother and best friend to WORK!! I left the shop a few minutes early tonight to hit Wegman's- of course I have to make everything from scratch because ordering food would have much easier, but this year's theme is a luau, and we need tasty treats that are going to be fresh and delicious. So, the food shopping is done, but nothing can really be prepared until tomorrow night, so in the meantime... I grabbed some yarn on the way out the door today to start this tonight...

Road to Golden from Knit scene fall 2007. Don't ask me why now, I just really love it. I feel like playing with color and I've wanted to knit it for a while. Two nights before 50 guests are to arrive at my house seemed like the perfect time to start a sweater:) I even have one of the Wild Things next to me to help me along. He's going to remind me what I might look like by the end of the weekend, actually I think he's kind of cute.

I chose some Debbie Bliss Cashmerino and a skein of Kersti and now I'm couch bound with my knitting. I'll worry about picking up balloons, the decorating, making the punch, and the 10,000 dishes that I need to cook, toss, and bake tomorrow night - right now, I just really need to knit.

How long is that gonna take?

...is the question asked by my 3 year tonight. She must be so sick of watching me crochet the same bag. I should be sick of it too, but I am working at such a glacial speed, I'm just too tired to even take notice. It should be done any minute now, and then I can start something new, perhaps something lacy and adorable from this book that came in again this week...
It's so hard to resist working with the Ecologie cotton from Nashua. Each shipment is a pleasure to unpack, even though there are only 6 colors, they are plant dyed and the dyelots are slightly different every time, check out the pinky one, I might need to knit something luxurious in that color!!

Then I can top it off with one of the new beaded buttons that arrived this week as well. I think a dk version of the anthropologie inspired caplet from craftster would be perfect. Mindless enough for my baby challenged brain, something I would actually wear a lot!! (and it would fit around my growing belly- and oh it's a growin').

I just want to give a special thanks to Through the Loops for her blog post this week, it really means a lot!! The pictures of the girls doing pottery are incredible, those are the pictures I'm always too muddy to take. It's nice to know I'm not the only who likes getting stuck in the mud. Her girls are amazing in a million different ways and are a pleasure to teach- I know they're enjoying the art of clay.

How cute are these? They're the "Pretty Cheep Project Bags" from Blue Sky Alpacas. The bag is a 12" square muslin fabric that is machine washable and perfect for your socks in progress. Summer lovin' Linen...

Yes, I know, almost an entire month with out a blog post. Truth be told, I've been yawning a lot!! I've been teaching so much lately that by the time I get home, and am ready to blog, I'm cross eyed and yawning. What can I say? This baby is kicking my butt.

Fiber camp was terrific, it felt so good to teach the girls how to have fun with fiber art. We hand painted silk/merino with kool aid, felted bracelets and flowers, and last but not least learned how to knit. Half way through, the girls were power knitting. I was so proud!!

I have to post Jackie M's latest work in progress. For anyone who knows Jackie- she hardly ever works from a pattern, and knits and crochets the most flattering, lovely sweaters in the whole wide world (no really- she gets stopped on the street).. So this time, it is all about the granny square. She chose Blue Sky Alpaca's sport weight in yummy colors and is planning on a little cardi, I took this photo on Thursday I think, so it's probably already finished, hopefully I'll have a finished product picture to share with you this week. Check out her colors though, they're so fab...
I think the granny square bug is going around, because Lindsay's got it too, except she is crocheting with Louet's euroflax. Her colors are GORGEOUS!! She came flying in the door this past week, and said "I can't talk about it, I just have this idea". We hopefully when she returns from her trip to Nice, France, this will be a great big wrap (that I can borrow). She's using a C hook to create these little squares, I think we decided that in total- she needs to have 120 or so squares, ouch- that's a lot of ends. Luckily for Lindsay, she's weaving in the ends after each square!!
So guess what? I finished a project this week! I can't believe it, I'm almost back! I too crocheted with beautiful summerlicious Louet linen. I whipped up one of the hats in the Japanese crochet book that features all summer bags and hats. These patterns are fairly easy, once you get the hang of the crochet symbols- which can be found in any learn to crochet book- the symbols are universal. We will be having a class on this, so stay tuned. For my hat, I doubled the yarn on an F hook and it fits great. I think if I was to do it again, I would use the yarn single strand with maybe a few more repeats of the pattern, just to make it lighter. If you are ever interested in trying a crochet project from any of the Japanese books, come on over and I'll help you. We have lots of books to browse through, and they're all beautiful. Here's my hat!

Introducing Lester...

So, as promised Lindsay stopped in over the weekend to share Lester- her new little friend. So cute, he will win you over no matter what. He's got style and pizazz, don't ya think?

Can you even stand him (love his little eye lid)? There is a pattern on Ravelry for Lester- he requires a little bit of worsted, such as Cascade 220, and whole lot of Ozark lovin', well only 1 skein. You can download the pattern for $4.50, he's too cute. I believe Lindsay is now knitting a Lester for each of her family members.

The scarf that has caused a complete frenzy to say the least around the shop these days, is Lindsay's Phiaro. When the pattern first came out, I thought it was pretty-but then when she came in with hers, knit in Nashua Ecologie cotton, I was jealous with a capital J!!!!!! It's a beauty, check it out. It's super easy, just long hours of straight knitting. Knitting a 22" tube, and then dropping a ton stitches, nothing too difficult about that, but I love it for a summer scarf, it would have come in handy over this past weekend, it was chilly at nighttime.

So of course, after my last email, I stated that I was feeling a little better now that I was approaching my 2nd trimester, and what happened? I was SO sick that very night. I'm still battling the late night nausea, but I do think it's wrapping up this time. I tore out the shawl I started knitting in the skinny cotton, and decided to cast on for a Phiaro of my own.

In the meantime, this is what I've been working on for the past few months..... Hope you enjoy this picture as much as we did today.

Now if this isn't a good reason for not getting work done, well then I don't know what is. Anyway, I will post for sure whether or not I will be hosting the annual "Knit In Public" day on June 14th tomorrow, I just have one more person to ask, I'm almost positive it will be fine. New Tilli Tomas...

Cecelia Chemise - a beautiful crocheted vest that is worked in one piece (we love that). This is perfect over a tank or a sun dress. Sahara - Some of you have seen this pattern in here before, as it's very popular, we make sure it's restocked at all times. You really get to play around with your yarn choices here, whether you adorn the edges with Tilli Tomas' Disco Lights or Rock Star, either silk is lovely and decadent. There are 3 sleeve options and this sweater is also worked from the top down - no seams!!

Bettina's Twist...

Bettina, a wonderful knitter-artist and friend of our shop, brought in her Rickenbacker scarf for show and tell this weekend. She used Tilli Tomas' beaded silk and a touch of Disco Lights to give it that extra Bettina fabulosity. I love it, check it out...

I don't know if you can really see the beads and sequins, but it's so beautiful, as soon as my Tilli Tomas comes in, probably tomorrow, I might have to whip one up for myself in "Hibiscus"- my favorite Tilli colorway. Yes, I am starting to get back to my knitting. With a week or so, left in the first trimester- yes, I said it- prego mego and sooooooo tired. Hopefully now, you can all give me a pass for my lack of blogging lately. I just haven't knit a stitch in literally 2 months. Exhaustion and nausea have totally taken over, and just finally this week, I am seeing the light at the end of the first trimester tunnel. So I decided after all, what I've been dying to work with is the Skinny Cotton from Blue Sky, and I just want something soft and cozy to wrap around me, for example- on a day like today. So one of the gals had come in with her "Mermaid" shawl, it was exactly what I had wanted.

Scarlett has been helping me stay wake through the days here at work, last week, on one of the many rainy days we had, I thought it would be fun to let her practice felting. So, I just wanted to share this picture with you, she's so sweet.

Since, I'm knitting on such a minimal level these days, if there is a project that you would like to share on the blog, just pop me an email with a picture and some detail, and I'll post it. Lindsay, if you're reading, we would love to see Phiaro #1. Of course I knit my mother a Phiaro, gave it to her on mother's day and forgot to take a picture of it. So hmm hmm Lindsay... New colorful goodies...

The most exciting new arrival to the shop, which needs to be #1 on the list are Erika's stylin' new needle cases. She's been sewing up a storm with these cases, using fun bright fabrics- what better way to store and showcase your circulars. She even included a big slot for your knit check!!They're hanging up in the shop, so come by and check them out!!

I've been wanting to post a picture of my complex cane beads that I made in Carol Cypher's workshop, so here they are. This was definitely my favorite class so far with Carol. I love the idea of wool on wool, as opposed to wool against wire or bead. Those classes were terrific, don't get me wrong, aesthetically, I just really loved the complex cane bead!! We were all so amazed by our results!! ps- I'd love to hold a workshop in this technique, so if anyone's interested, email me or call the shop. It's a really cool process to learn!! I'll have to add it onto the schedule as one of our Wednesday morning felting get-togethers...
Lots of new yarns came in, we are stacked with Dream in Color Classy, all of their new colors are yummy! We also received some Kersti and KPPPM, here are my three favs of each...

(don't ask why this picture came in sideways- I don't get blogger) Anyway, I think someone sweet needs a little summer shrug for those evening strolls at the shore!! I think there's a free pattern on Knit and tonic's blog- the "Girlfriend Shrug".

Last but not least, another fabulous shipment of Hand Maiden came in last week. A bunch of the Rumple Scarf Kits along with Sea Silk- absolutely gorgeous of course...

I'm going to start the Montego Bay scarf once and for all, I think out of the light pink, we'll see. One color is more beautiful than the next, it's kind of hard to pick and choose. As soon as I'm done with this "oh so exciting" (I'm being sarcastic) Phiaro scarf. Gorgeous when it's finished, but could it be more boring to knit? Knitting in the round for 21 inches? ugh!!! I'll post it when it's finished, it's good to back to my knitting after a long hiatus :)

where have I been?

Well, not blogging much, that's for sure. But all for good reason, I promise. Things are returning back to normal a bit around the shop now that the Great Adirondack trunk show is packed up and sent back. What a job that was, counting and sorting and packing!! But it was a success as usual, thanks Patti!! We received a bunch of new goodies this week, such as Koigu's Kersti, and lots of KPPPM. The colors are super yummy. Erika had the pleasure of unpacking a box of gorgeous Sea Silk from Hand Maiden. The colors are unbelievable. I better get crackin' for Mother's Day with all of these beautiful yarns around me to choose from, I really have no excuse!! Oh yeah and the Cali collection from Namaste is back in town. The bags are in stock once again - YEAH!!

Last Friday, I took Scarlett to Long Island, to my home town to see my family (my grandmother's house). We took a walk by the boats, and I showed her the port where I grew up. A walk down memory lane perhaps. I really miss the feel and smell of the salty air and the sound of seagulls and ships blowing their horns, you take it for granted when you hear it everyday- but thank goodness it never leaves you. I love that summer is coming, because we'll get to visit more often, she really loved it, (and loves her new sea horse necklace)...

Okay, every obsessed crocheter just needs a copy of this book. I think I need an entire family of these little friends for my desk, and I'm sure Scarlett wouldn't mind a few of them to play with either. Love the guy with the tan pants and big black ears, he's too cool.

You have to admit, those pillows are pretty cool.... More books, more ideas, and now more projects crowding my thoughts, someone needs to come up a way to insert an extra hour or two into my day just for crafting. Enjoy your sunshiny day!!
